Overview
In the field of recording, Terence P. Minogue earned two RIAA Certified Gold Records, first for his arrangements on Jim Croce’s “I Got A Name” LP for ABC-Dunhill Records and later for his arrangement of the #1 single “Shannon” by Henry Gross. His arrangements can be heard on over 200 recordings. He has worked for all major labels, including Warner Bros., CBS/Epic (now Sony), RCA, Atlantic, Capitol, AVCO-Embassy, ABC, United Artists, RCA and associated labels: MidSong International, A&M, Buddah, and LifeSong. For seven years, he was Director of A&R at LifeSong Records, a division of CBS/Epic. Previously, while working for Cashman & West in New York City, he arranged twenty-eight local and five national commercials.
Relocating in California, Mr. Minogue was hired by producers Noel Marshall & Tippi Hedren to score their motion picture ROAR for American Filmworks and Universal Studios. He scored, orchestrated and conducted over 100 minutes of music. The National Philharmonic Orchestra, the recording branch of The London Symphony Orchestra, played the soundtrack. He also produced the film’s soundtrack album. Although never released in the United States, ROAR was released worldwide and enjoyed major success in Germany, Australia, Italy, and Japan. The ROAR soundtrack album achieved a top ten spot in Australia, where it was released on Festival Records.
Among other accomplishments, Terence Minogue scored PENPAL, a cartoon series shown on Nickelodeon. He scored the NBC plot, PUPPETMAN, a Jim Henson Production. Terence Minogue has orchestrated three network television series: THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO (ABC), THE QUEST (CBS), and TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY (ABC) for the legendary team of Mike Post and Pete Carpenter.
Education
While Mr. Minogue was earning his Bachelor of Science degree in composition from Temple University College of Music, he was already distinguishing himself as a composer of choral works in the Philadelphia area. Today, those early choral settings of biblical text are still in publication and performed in several Philadelphia churches. Although he received his formal musical education at Temple University, Terence Minogue feels that the major part of his education came from ‘on-the-job’ experience in the recording, television, and film industries.
Recent Accomplishments
Terence Minogue was commissioned by the Dubuque Symphony and Choir to write two pieces. The resulting pieces, Sweet Was the Song and Christmas Bells, were performed in their 1994 Christmas concert. The Dubuque Symphony also performed Minogue’s Labor Day (from his symphony, American Holidays) in September of 1995 (tape available). Other commissions came from the John Nelson Chorus in New York, who performed Terence Minogue’s Music & Dance in Carnegie Recital Hall (tape available), and the 3D Trio from Ventura County Master Chorale, who performed Terence Minogue’s Psalm 13 in Eastern Europe on their 1992 tour and Credo Prelude in Finland. In the 1997 Masters of the Millenium program, the Gold Coast Concert Chorus performed his Gloria. As Composer-in-Residence at Church of the Foothills in Ventura, he writes new music regularly for services and special cantatas and oratorios for the holidays. Major works performed with choir and orchestra include: Maginificat!, The Feminine Face of God, and Earthbound (a Story of Angels).
In 1994, Terence Minogue broke new ground and generated publicity when he composed an entire service: Communion in E Minor, for Church of the Foothills, featuring orchestra, choir, and soloists. In 1994, Terence Minogue had his first performance with his own choral group, American Voices. The group features 24 professional singers and performs with a 6 to 10 piece instrumental ensemble. Subsequent performances at First Christian Church, Church of the Foothills, and The Brand Library in Glendale have been very well-received. The focus of the group is American music, with about 75% of the music composed or arranged by Minogue and the balance by prominent American Composers.
Other groups that have performed Terence P. Minogue’s compositions include The Altoona (PA) Symphony, The Princeton (NJ) Chamber Orchestra, the Owensboro (KY) Symphony Orchestra, the combined choirs of the United Churches of Christ, and the Portland (OR) Symphony, and the Gold Coast Concert Chorus in Ventura. His religious music has been performed in churches throughout the United States.
Terence P. Minogue works at Kaiser Permanente in Burbank. He lives in Oak Park with his wife, Jane, and children Sarah and Patrick. He has recently received his MBA in Marketing.
