After graduating from college in 1992, I moved to Omaha and taught both 1st and 2nd grades for four years. Deciding that a change would be good, I packed up and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where I didn't quite blend in. After years of living here, a few born-and-bred southern friends insist I will always be a Yankee, and my husband supports that notion by joking: You can take the girl out of Nebraska, but you can't take Nebraska out of the girl! Living in the Midwest may be in my past, but I will always be a Cornhusker at heart! While moving to Raleigh proved to be a real change from my Nebraska upbringing, it was also a blessing in disguise.
It was here that I met my husband, Chi, who develops software for SAS, Inc. A Yankee himself, he was new to Raleigh as well, so we spent time together getting to know the area. We were married in 2000, and we settled in Raleigh despite the unfamiliar vernacular and extremely oppressive summers! After welcoming our first child, Benjamin, in 2002, I continued working as a Remedial Reading Specialist until little Thomas joined our family in 2004! I am happy to be able to stay at home with our children while they are young, and volunteering in their schools provides me with an opportunity to continue to work with kids. Extracurricular and church activities keep our family busy, but when we have a free day we love to spend it going to the beach, hiking outdoors and bicycling with the kids.
