Judith Freeman Phillips

I married Troy Brittain on 11/21/65. We were unable to have children and adopted a daughter, Marcy Dawn Brittain, in May of 1970. She and her husband, Garry Collins, live across the street from me in Cooleemee.

We bought our first home at 5923 Wilora Lake Road in 1968. When Char/Meck Schools insisted on bussing Marcy to a different school every year, when she entered 5th grade we moved to Huntersville so she would be too far away to be bussed. She graduated from North Meck on 1988 and spent 2 yrs. at Wingate University. She decided to enter the working world and has been at FU, Wachovia, Wells Fargo 19 years. She and Garry have a 6 yr. old, Gracie Mae Collins--the light of my life.

I started college at Queens College in Charlotte in 1980. It took me 14 1/2 yrs.to finish but I graduated in 1995. My parents, Troy and Marcy were there. Sadly, I lost Troy in 1996 to lung cancer. I dated a few guys but in 2001 I met Bob Phillips, he was a mail handler at the Post Office in Charlotte and I had been out of Charlotte before he came to work there.

We were married at First Baptist Church in Cooleemee on November 9, 2002 and recently celebrated 10 years of marriage. We enjoy bowling, golf, fishing at the beach, playing games and cards with friends and family and are actively involved in Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mocksville, NC where I cook 2 Tuesdays a month for the C.A.R.E. group. I am the fill in pianist and Bob, Linda (my sister), and I all sing in the choir. Linda has lived with me since her husband died in 2001. When Bob married me, he got my Dad, Linda and Heidi (a miniature Schnauzer); I got 4 more children and 3 grandchildren. Now we have 5 boys and 5 girls (grandchildren) and one child (Dorothea) who isn't married yet. We take our 7 grandchildren who live in NC to the beach every year for a week. We are currently in the process of re-doing the whole house. We're finished with the living/dining room and the guest room which became the GIRLIE Room for granddaughters Sarai and Gracie. The rest of the grandkids in NC are boys. We have 3 granddaughters in Wisconsin where their father teaches at the University of Milwaukee and does molecular biology research. He was married to Kathleen, who died as a result of a car accident in 2005, and they had a 15 month old at the time. Rich has remarried and they have 2 more girls but we claim them all: Abby, Georgie and Maple Kate.

Buddy Livingston has kept me in the loop with the reunion planning and I plan to attend the next luncheon meeting.
