Today's Featured Biography
Barbara Smith Bentley
Hi Guys,
Well I saw some of you at the 25th reunion and I'm still living in Richfield. I live across the street from Lucy Obergs old house. Her parents still live there, such very nice people. Couldn't have better neighbors.
For those of you whom I didn't see (or who don't remember what I told you), at the last reunion, after graduation, I went to college for dental assisting. I worked in that field full time until my oldest son was born and then continued to work as a sub for t he next ten year in that field.
In 1986, my husband John and I moved from the Twin Cities to Indpls. IN. where we lived for twelve years. Both of you sons
were born there. It is a very nice city (for you tourists, you can
not judge the city by the area that the Indps. Motor Speedway is in, which in NOT the nicest part of town, I remember going through there on a family vacation in HS, because my Dad just HAD to see the race track, and thinking what a dive, I would never want to live in this city! lol! Be careful what you say you would "never" do.
So, long story short, we moved back to MN in 1998 and stayed with my parents while looking for a house. Anyone out there ever moved back home with your parents? Needless to say, it didn't take me too long before I felt the need to have my own home again! The more we talked about it, the more we thought Richfield would be a good area to live in. Most importantly close to family as my husbands family at the time were in East Bethal and up north near Duluth. It was nice having free babysitters 2 miles away, lol!
Well, after moving back here, the old dental career, had to come to a stop. My license with the state of MN had expired and it involved way too much at the time to try and reinstate it soooo, I began looking for a new job. A neighbor of my parents suggested I look into working in food service in a school district. It was the perfect "Mom job", home before the kids go to school, and back by 3pm. Weekends and holidays and most importantly SUMMMERS OFF! Woohoo! gotta love this job! So although it may not sound too glamorous, and it is hard work, I really do like my job. I have worked my way up over the years to the assistant to the site manager and have filled in as manager several times, including for a whole school year while my boss was out on a medical leave. We feed on average 1000-1100 hot lunches every day in two and a half hours! One thing I can say is that I'm NEVER bored at my job!
I have two great sons who have both graduated from Richfield. One did honors classes there and the other did PSEO and will be starting college this fall as a sophomore instead of a freshman. We are very proud of both of our boys. They are great kids. They work hard at school and play. We are blessed to have such good kids, and I don't take it for granted. I know that not everyone is so blessed and I thank God on a regular basis for them.
Well. that's my life in a nutshell. May not seem too exciting compared to some of you I'm sure, but I like it for the most part and can't complain.
Take care you all!
God Bless,
Barb

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
