After graduation from Pershing, I attended MSU. I originally planned to be a high school English teacher, but switched to elem. educ. - one of the best decisions I ever made.
My teaching career started in Center Line in 1963. (Judi Pavel and I taught in the same school.) After 2 years, I transferred to Birmingham Public Schools and remained in that district until I retired in 2001. During that time, I taught developmental kdg., 1st grade, 2nd grade, remedial reading, Title I math, and Reading Recovery. What an incredibly rewarding career. I continue to guest teach and volunteer whenever possible.
I met my husband, Jim, at MSU and we were married on August 17, 1963. Jim has a manufacturing business in Ferndale and is still working. We have two children, Jim and Ann, both U of M graduates, and four precious grandchildren.
Our son, Jim, his wife Michelle, Jade ('01), and James ('03) live in Traverse City.
Our daughter, Ann, her husband Patrick, Chloe ('00), and Sophie ('02) live in Petoskey.
Our home on Grand Traverse Bay in the Eastport/Ellsworth area is about 35 miles from them. What a blessing to have them so close. Besides all the fun things we do at the beach house, I am able to go on field trips with them, attend school programs and cheer them on at their sporting events. I love being a Nana!
I have such fond memories of my high school days. Can't wait to see everyone in September.
