After graduating from Northwestern, I went to work at Goddard Space Flight Center where I met my 1st husband. I was married to Richard Goucher in 1967. We had 3 beautiful children together, Cindy, Debbie and Adam. After living in numerous states, we settled in Colorado in 1982. We divorced in 1987. My children are all amazing people who I am so very proud of; Cindy is married and now a stay-at-home mom and is home-schooling her 8 year old son, Ayden. Her oldest son, Bryce, is graduating from high school this year (can I be THAT old?)and will be going to Colorado School of Mines in the fall. My daughter Debbie is married and is a kindergarten assistant teacher and has two beautiful children, Kailie who is 11 and Logan who is 9. My son, Adam Goucher, was a 2000 Olympian, running the 5K in Sydney (I got to go and watch. What an incredible honor for a mom!) and is married to Kara Goucher, a beautiful 2 time Olympian (2008-Beijing, 5K & 10K; 2012-London, Marathon), and they have my youngest grandchild, Colton, who is 4. Both Adam (& his friend Tim) and Kara have written running books and Adam and Tim do motivational speaking around the country and have created training plans and other things related to running--available on their website) my children and all 5 grandchildren live within 45 minutes of me, in Colorado. I'm very blessed!!
John and I got married in 1996 and after living outside Dallas, TX for 2 years, we returned to Boulder, Colorado. We have lived in Nederland, Colorado, a small mountain town, which is a 25 minute drive west of Boulder at an elevation of 8,300 feet, since 1999 and we can't imagine living anywhere else! It's amazingly gorgeous up here!
I worked in human resources for 20 years, ending that career as a director in two different organizations. Needing a break from the stress of that environment, I became an office manager at a retirement community and then worked as a police and court clerk for the Nederland Police Department. After 6 years there, I retired last May (2014). In my "spare" time I'm a Victim Advocate for the Boulder County Sheriff's Department, I volunteer at our amazing Carousel of Happiness and am the past president of the Carousel Board, and I volunteer at our Community Center where I have also been asked to be the Shelter Manager (when we have fires and floods up here--as we have had in the past--the Community Center becomes a shelter for those who have been evacuated). So, although I'm retired, I'm still working!
