Paul Alix

After graduation I went to SIU to study early child development. Soon began to get more interested in yoga and the ways of the East. This lead me into a very powerful expression period which is why I began Ballet. I studied all I could in Chicago for the next year and then received a scholarship to study in the Bay Area, CA.

After 2 years I left for Iceland and continued on to Europe where I began my professional career as an apprentice to the Ballet du Wallone in Belgium and had to learn French. Later I went on to live in Paris, one of my favorite cities in the entire world. If not for Paris (& the Dance World) I was ready to abandon city life altogether. During my stay in Europe I worked in Athens Ballet Theatre, Greece, and the Kazalishta in Split, Yugoslavia among small contracts all over France and the Paris region. Returning to the USA took my last dance contract in upstate NY and finally improvisational dance with jazz musicians.

Not wanting to dance for money anymore I began teaching Pilates with direct students of Joseph Pilates. That was back when only dancers and the rich knew about the style. Yeah, yeah, I went to NYU and majored in movement studies where I learned about things like Laban and the Thinking Body.

Wanting more than physical exercise I began to teach yoga which was my long love anyway. In between all this time (mentioned above) I had made several trips to India for my studies and because I love to travel. I met Yulia in India and the attraction drove me to Russia.

My main abandon is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which I teach with chanting from the original Sanskrit to give teachers a firm foundation in the core of the practice. It's my answer to the Stardom and commercialism that has naturally fallen upon this potent art. I now offer this in Teacher Training Programs around the country.

Yulia, my wife and I live in NYC but plan to move out into the country life, build a home and grow food and I'll continue to travel around teaching the Sutras etc. Well, Yulia is much younger than I am and the attraction to NYC is still very strong. I hope we have kids soon, I'm ready she might want to wait.

Not married anymore. In a Jungle in India studying Panini Grammer for understanding of Sanskrit Texts and Studying the Upanishads under the vision of a rare master.
