Please keep Georgie Brown Gimbel in your thoughts and prayers. Her husband, John,
passed away October 19th in Bonita Springs, FL. They shared a very loving 31 year
. . .
When I left LaGrange to come east for college 50 years ago, I didnít realize that it would be a permanent move. After college, I worked for two years in Chicago and Washington D.C., but then returned to Harvard to pursue a graduate degree. I met Bob while we were both graduate students. We married in 1970 and moved out to LA for a year. But we hated the smog and the sprawl, so moved back to Massachusetts where Bob joined the Harvard faculty and I finished my PhD. Weíve lived here ever since.
After our son Karl was born, I started what turned into a 30-year career of consulting in the field of environmental economics, much of it for EPA. Over the years Iíve analyzed the costs and benefits of a variety of environmental actions, and developed programs and incentives to get businesses and individuals to ďclean up their act.Ē
A few years ago I decided it was time for a change, so I retired. Since then I have been spending a lot of time and energy in various elected and appointed positions here in Massachusetts. I am also very active in the local League of Women Voters. Bob continues to practice law but thinks itís about time to retire. So hopefully more travel and more time in Maine are in our near future. Karl is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburg, but this summer and fall he is Germany on a research fellowship.
Now that nearly all my family have left the Chicago area, I rarely get back to Illinois. But the years I spent growing up in LaGrange, and the friends I made there, are still very much a part of me.
