Well, I am embarassed to be getting in touch with those of you in the class of '71 after all these years, but thank Jim Yukich for getting me to do so. Jim nominated me for the initial Alumni Wall of Fame at EPCHS. I am sure there are many of us worthy of that honor. I just got a letter today saying that I will be in the initial group of five to be so honored on May 12. I will be pleased to go back to EP for the ceremony.
To sum up what I have been doing since leaving EP, I graduated from U of I Chicago in '74, then went to U of I Chicago's medical school. After graduation there, I trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the VA Hines Hospital and Loyola Medical Center west of Chicago. In 1983 I married, and then moved to Atlanta to work at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). I had short stint as a doc at the local VA hospital, then returned to CDC in 1989, where I worked until 2006. My work has focused on health services research, education, and health promotion for vaccines, primarily those recommended for adults. I moved to the Washington, DC area in 2006, and continue similar work in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Vaccine Program Office. I divorced in 1994, and remarried in 2002 to my wife, Linda McKibben. I have one daughter, Ona, from my first marriage, who should graduate from college this spring, and help Linda out with her two kids, Kalysta and Jeremy, but all three are in college, so other than paying the bills, there is not much you can tell them now(!)
To gain some additional intellectual stimulation, and perhaps prepare for a non-government job at some point, I started coursework for a Master's degree in Public Health at George Wasington University this past January. Keeping up with people less than half my age is quite a challenge!
Sorry that I have missed the previous class reunions, but somehow just didn't get there. Perhaps one or two of you will be at EP on May 12, and if not, will keep in touch via this website.
