Life and Times in 1958

After graduation from high school, life was tough when the average yearly income was just $5,087! But then when Dwight D. Eisenhower was President, a house cost only $18,640. Milk cost only 51 cents a half gallon, 10 lbs of potatoes cost 63 cents and 79 cents would bring home the bacon. Back then we could buy a loaf of bread at the grocery store for the 1958 price of 19 cents! Yes, those were the days when we listended to songs like "April Love" and "The Purple People Eater". And who could forget the enchanting melody of "Tom Dooley"? When we were glued to the television set, we watched "The Jack Benny Show", the most popular show in 1958. Remember that it was the New York Yankees over the Milwaukee Braves in the 1958 World Series?

Ron and Diane were married in 1963, have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. They enjoy travel and took their daughters on a "Dream" trip. Kathleen to Austria and Kelley to Venice. We now travel with our grandchild on their dream trips when they are 10. 2 of the boys choose fly-in fishing trips to Canada and a granddaughter to Disney World. They enjoy relaxing in their condo.

Ron attended Centralia Junior College for 1 year and then transferred to Illinois State University and graduated in 1963 with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Mathematics. Ron taught at Bay View High School where he taught Math, Computer Science and coached Girls Cross Country and Girls Track. Ron's proudest moment of coaching Girls Cross Country and Girls track was having several state competitors in both sports and then state champions. One of the girls became a state champion and then went on to become a national champion and winning a gold medal as a part of the 4X10 relay at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Her name was Ester Jones. Ron taught summer school Algebra at Marquette University for 27 years.

He retired in 1996 as a teacher and has several "un-retirement" jobs. He delivers for several companys, Kohl's Department Stores, Corporate offices, Photo Center, etc.
