Sorry about all the military photos, but that’s all I really have of recent photos.
For those that don’t know (and care), after graduation I started a military career in the Idaho Army National Guard. I went in as a photo journalist, and actually did that for 11 ˝ years. While in that role, I spent several months in Germany, Honduras, El Salvador, and Panama. The biggest “tour” was being activated and serving in the Persian Gulf War. I spent time in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain. It was actually during that deployment I decided after taking a Combat Lifesaver Course; I would start my next career.
When I came back, I first became an EMT. I then went into nursing. Between starting school at Utah Valley Community College (now UVSC) and getting accepted into Boise State, I met my wife and was married. I received my ASN and BSN at Boise State University. I received a direct commission after completing my BSN. By the time I finished my BSN, I had two sons.
After a few years of working as a critical care nurse in the coronary care unit at St. Alphonsus, I decided to set my sites on becoming a nurse practitioner. I had worked as a RN for 4 years at St. Al’s before moving to North Carolina and starting three programs of instruction at Duke University. I also worked full-time at Duke University’s coronary care unit, and part-time in their hyperbaric chamber. It was a very hectic but extremely rewarding experience.
After I took my certification exam and became an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, I tried to get back to Boise, but ended up in Auburn, WA. Shortly after moving to Auburn, my third son was born. I worked with a cardiology group performing both in and out patient cardiology care. After 2 years with them, I was activated again.
I spent 4 months in Texas, and two months in Louisiana, before going to Kuwait and on to a place outside of Kirkuk, Iraq. I was in Iraq for a year, and then spent a few more months on active duty in Washington while I recovered from some health issues.
When I went back to my “old” job, things had changed. I still feel like the group I worked with was trying to force me to leave. So I found a better job, and left. I now continue to work with a cardiologist and just do out patient care.
I will hopefully be retiring from the military in another year or so (I have only 18.5 good years for retirement, because I went on a church mission to Guatemala for 2 years, which I was in an inactive status to do).
I guess that’s what I have been up to. Feel free to email me if you would like to know more. I am planning on going to the reunion and I look forward to seeing those that will be there.
If you haven’t decided to go or not, I went to part of the 10 year reunion. I didn’t think it would be fun, and actually got talked into going for part of the Friday night Ram social. I thought I would not have a good time, and was only going to be there 5-10 minutes. However, when I got there, it was extremely fun, and hated leaving that night. I couldn’t go to the Saturday night event due to work. But I ended up taking my oldest son down to the family picnic at Borah on Sunday. I would strongly encourage you to go if you have any doubts.
