Itís already September, 2016. 47 years & a summer after Manatee High. 47 years after I was a slave-laborer at Miller Trailers, 46 years after I worked for a while as a mechanic at the local Chrysler-Plymouth dealer with classmate Charlie Hulen's father as my boss, 45 years after I went to work for the tax-payers. And I am still alive. First, I want to - as an amazing lady, classmate, and former co-worker of my late father, the lovely and talented Terry Chapman so eloquently put it - apologize to any and all I sideswiped and/or offended along the way. With the exception of Dean of Boys Chad Choate, he had it coming. Life has been exceptionally good to me, with some pretty rough speed-bumps thrown in along the way. Some wonderful people have come into my life. Some stayed, others sadly didn't stay. I have recently seen both of my daughters go through traumatic, life-changing events; the oldest now being widowed for the second time in her short life. My three sons are all employed and doing well, two of them as cops. There is still a black motorcycle in the shed, still beer in the refrigerator, so something of the old days remain. There is still a cop car in the yard so there is a paycheck to supplement the short retirement check from Tampa and the full one from Selma Police Department. I don't drink cheap beer any more. I had planned on retiring at the end of this year and maybe relocating, but as life changes, Iím just going to hang around and see what happens next. Life may not have played out quite like I planned, especially in the last few years, but overall life has been just fine. I wish everybody from MHS 1969 the best. I hope we keep together as a group, and I look forward to our class 50th reunion.
