If you've read Dick Meyers' Bio, you can just plug me in alongside him! It has been my joy to be his wife and partner for 48 years! We married in Sept. 1960 and began our adventure. While he was attending Colo. School of Mines and CU, I was working for the Government (Forest Service and Bureau of Outdoor Recreation). When he graduated in 1964, we moved to Huntsville, AL, to work in the space program. What an exciting time! He worked on the Saturn V moon launch rocket, and I worked for NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center for the Director of the Instrument Landing System. Dr. Werner von Braun was just upstairs. When Dick was assigned to NASA Moffett Field, I transferred to the Future Space Projects Office on a very "Secret" project - now known as the Space Shuttle. Great people and great fun!
When the call came to go overseas, I moved back to Colorado and bid Dick farewell, wondering if I'd ever see him again. Then, wonder of wonders, he was reassigned to Okinawa in the First Special Forces. He did not have enough time remaining for the military to pay for my move overseas, so I went on my own. The Government came through for me again when I got a job at Kadena Air Force Base working for the Commander of Pacific supplies. Thanks to the liberal leave policies of the military and Government, we were able to tour Southeast Asia and enjoy the people and sights.
Boeing offered us the choice of returning to Huntsville or Seattle. We chose Seattle. I worked for the Air Force at Boeing on the SRAM Missile Project. We began our family in 1969 with Mindy. I quit work to raise her and Kristi, born in 1973. In 1972, we moved to Portland, Oregon, where Dick attended seminary. I took in classes whenever I could. The professors were awesome and made the Word of God so alive!
Then it was back to Seattle for the rest of our life till now. I went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired from there in 2005.
Grandchildren have been born: Emily in 1991, Wyatt in 1999, and Grady in 2009. Circumstances were such that Dick and I actually raised Emily. What a joy she has been! Kept us young!
I keep trying to get Dick to retire, but businesses have a way of dropping into his lap. The most recent one is an invention by a young friend--a collapsible crab pot. Dick is financing and marketing this product, and it is doing well. I know crab pots are foreign to most of you, but they're big on the coasts!
God has blessed us with a wonderful life! It is good to look back and good to think of all of you! We are truly anticipating reconnecting with you all next summer!
