Mark your calendars! The 50th Class Reunion will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010. We will hold it at the Elk's Lodge in Vallejo. This will unfortunately be our last reunion at this Elk's Lodge since the building is being sold. The event will start at 5 p.m. with no-host cocktails and dinner will be at 7 p.m.
We are hoping to have a good turnout since it marks the 50th year milestone. If you have address or email information for any classmates, please share so we can notify as many alumni as possible.
More information will follow as plans are finalized. We hope to see you there.

VHS Class of 1959 50th Reunion Class Picnic and Bar-B-Q
Friday, July 17, 2009 - 10:00 am
Hanns Park Redwood Parkway
$5.00 - to be paid at the park
A picnic will be held from 10:00am to 5:00pm on July 17th at Hanns Park in Vallejo. The park is located on Redwood Parkway east of I-80. All family members are welcome. Lunch will begin around 1pm. A $5 fee will be collected to cover incidentals. Bring your own chairs as seating is pretty scattered around. This will be a great time to meet and greet your fellow classmates in a relaxed time of leisure before the reunion dinner the next evening. (See following announcement.)
All Vallejo High classes from 1957-1961 are also invited.

VHS Cedar Tree Returns as Naiche
Pictured
above is Devyon Harrison, wood carver from Petaluma, with the carving he created
from the trunk of our 80 plus year old Cedar that had to be removed because of
the danger from falling branches. The tree was removed on April 16, 2008, and
Devyon delivered our carving on June 9, 2008. The original idea of carving
Naiche from the trunk of the tree came from Laurie Kee. She went online and
found a local wood carver and I gave him a call. Devyon came out to VHS to take
a look at the tree trunk and what we wanted and an agreement was established.
Once the class of 1962 heard about the project, they insisted (didn't take any
arm twisting) that they pay for the replacement tree as well as the $1200.00
cost of the carving (by the way, this price was a major discount thanks to the
generosity of Devyon). The current home for the carving is the Main Office
reception area. Please stop by to take a look - it is AMAZING!!
Naiche being cut down
The picture above is of the Naiche tree being cut down after branches started
falling from the tree a arborist was called in and he recommended removing the
tree, that was the birth of our Naiche.

Today's Featured Biography
Laurence Day
B.A. from Long Beach State, spent three years in army (1966-1968),reuturned to L.B.S.C. for M.A.,taught in Napa for several years, moved to Kona on the Big Island in Hawaii in 1975. Built house on 7 acres, planted coffee and macadamia nuts, went back to teaching in Kona 1978. Sold farm and bought condo down near the beach when Karen and I recently retired; We love to travel (just returned from three months in Europe) and spending time with our daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren here in Kona and our son in Santa Barbara. Life is good.
