Michael Nelson

Michael D. Nelson

Born in Vallejo, California, Michael got his introduction to music in the Church of Christ, where there are no musical instruments. The absence of instruments enhanced his ability to hear and understand harmonies, but did not stop him from learning to play the piano by ear before he was 7 years old. Michael’s first taste of the music business came after joining an acapella vocal group called “Joyful Noise” and recording a project with the group that led to numerous bay area appearances before opening for what was the hottest gospel group at that time, The Winans, at the famous Circle Star Theatre. Immediately following that appearance, the group was featured on The Arsenio Hall Show. The group went on to do numerous other performances before Michael left the group and began recording on his own.

After recording an acapella CD entitled “Home Brewed Acapella Music” Michael caught the attention of Ali Ollie Woodson, former lead singer of the Temptations and the writer of the hit song “Treat Her Like A Lady”. Michael began rehearsing with Ali immediately after his initial meeting, and went on to perform with Ali Ollie Woodson and the Emperors of Soul across the United States and in Bejing, China. Michael left the group after a year of touring. After spending some time in search of himself, Michael rededicated his life to Christ, found a new church home at Revival Center Ministries in Vallejo, Ca., and began singing for the Lord once again. Shortly after joining RCM, Michael met Von King of VeeKay Records and began recording songs for the project now known as "NIKAO!".

Since the release of “NIKAO”, Michael has performed at a nearly sold out CD Release Concert at The Empress Theatre in Vallejo, followed by a trip to Virginia to perform for the Gospel Announcers Guild, and then an appearance on Bobby Jones Gospel in New Orleans, set to air this season on Impact Network. Michael just returned from an appearance in Maryland at the Reid Temple AME Annual Community Fair, a church with over 10,000 members. Michael recently completed a San Francisco Bay Area Tour with Christian Comedian J-Red. The first single from the CD, “To Praise You”, has been added to over 60 radio station playlists across the country and a second single release and video is soon to come. Michael's soulful sound was destined to be heard by the world, and it is with much pleasure and excitement that we introduce to you Michael Nelson.
