Miles Fujiwara

After graduating from FVHS I attended Golden West College aspiring to earn a degree in Architecture (still my passion!) but decided after working for an architectural firm as an intern that maybe being an architect was not all it was cracked-up to be. So after some further thought I decided that I would be happier in the Mechanical Engineering industry so I changed my major to Mechanical Engineering. But I never completed my degree...

As fate would have it I became caught up in the middle of a union labor dispute with my part-time employer (Fedco, Inc.) and was without a job with car payments becoming due. I then applied for (what I thought would be) a summer job with Fluor Corporation in 1979 to see me through the labor dispute. Twenty-seven years later I am still an employee with Fluor Corporation in their Piping Engineering Department (even though I have left the company twice but later returned) where I am currently the Lead Piping Design Supervisor on one of the many projects being executed in the Aliso Viejo office.

I got married in 1980 and have two wonderful children as the result of that union. I strongly believe that my children will have the opportunities that I did not have when I was their age so I have strongly suggested that they both attend and graduate from college after high school – which they are both in the process of doing.

My son Jonathan is currently a Senior at California State University Monterrey Bay in Seaside, California majoring in Communications. My daughter Ashleigh is currently a Junior at California State University Long Beach, California majoring in Business – Human Resources.

In 2003 I decided to go back to school myself to complete my degree in Business Management (what could be a better example right?). After many sacrifices and weekends filled with homework and writing papers I finally graduated from the University of Phoenix on July 29, 2006 surrounded by my closest friends and family. I will begin in my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program in October of 2006 and should graduate in December of 2007.

That is about all that I care to ramble about for now so I’ll end here.
