Today's Featured Biography
Darlene Souza Bandley
Darlene grew up on her folk’s dairy, one of the first (1950) Portuguese’s dairy’s in the area. After graduation, Darlene worked for Bank of America on Elk Grove Boulevard for several years. She later moved to Ceres, California and worked for the DMV for 23 years. She met and married Ted Bandley (Provo HS, Utah ’64) in 1998 and they moved to Long Barn, California. Ted was a Mechanic/Machinist for Hydra Electric and he was responsible for all their electrical standby generators, retiring in 2015 after twenty-six years. When Darlene got to Long Barn she transferred to the prison system and worked as a secretary for 12 years, retiring on 11/11/2011, a date which she planned for two years.
They now live in Oakdale, California. Between them they have four children and they all live nearby in Modesto and Ripon. They have seven grandchildren and love to take care of any if they get the opportunity.
Darlene and sister, Lorraine (’69) Alves, dedicated themselves to taking care of both parents who lived well into their 90’s. Devotion they never took for granted.
These days, Ted volunteers for the Retired Veterans Association and is part of their honor guard. He served in the U.S. Army (‘64-’65) as a musician and is often called upon to play his horn for many military honors. He is very handy and takes care of all Darlene’s renovation requests.
Since her last day of high school Darlene has exercised everyday of her life and has often taught classes. Presently, she works out for 45 minutes a day and walks/jogs four miles. She attributes her extremely good health to her long commitment.
Besides tending her gardens at home, she volunteers at the local hospital as a “Pink Lady.” She usually works the front desk as a greeter, does paper work, and often guides patients to their destination.
She considers herself very lucky and enjoyed the reunion. (2018)
