Horace Hinshaw
Best wishes to all the 1958 graduates who are returning to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our graduation.
I am living in Pacifica, California - a 15 min. drive from downtown San Francisco. I have lived in the San Francisco area since 1963 when I was drafted by the U.S. Army and sent to the Presidio of San Francisco to serve two years in the Public Information Office.
Following graduation from high school, I attended Arkansas State University and in 1962 earned a degree in journalism. While at the university I served as editor of the university newspaper and was student-manager of the campus radio station. I worked for a year as sports writer with the then Arkansas Democrat Newspaper.
I met my wife, Marian, while stationed in Presidio. We were married in 1966 and will celebrate our 43nd anniversary in August. Our daughter, Kam, lives in Chico, California and has two daughters. Our son Steve lives in San Mateo, California. It has been a great 42 years.
Both my wife and I are recent retirees. She was a school secretary for 28 years and I just ended a 42 year career with the Postal Service. I began working in the Inspection Service and later became the voice of the Postal Service throughout Northern California as the public relations-media manager.
For 20 years, while working with the Postal Service, I satisfied my taste for sports by working for our community newspaper as the sports editor. Unfortunately, realignment of the Postal Service positions in 1987 prevented me from continuing my hobby. However, 20 years later, I have returned to assume that role at the Pacifica Tribune.
Retirement is great! Like other retired couples, we travel, go on cruises, and dance (ballroom and country-western). We especially love babysitting our grandchildren and the four hour drive to get to their home is well worth taking.
We both now work with the San Francisco Giants baseball team in guest services. It is a great way to supplement our income!
If you have never visited San Francisco, I invite you to do so! It is a great place to visit or live!
Best wished for the reunion! I will not be able to attend but I will be there in spirit!
