Keith Dirkes
Keith Eugene Dirkes was born October 16th 1980 in Germany, to Theodore L. Dirkes Sr. and Leslie A. Dirkes. Keith lived in Germany with his mother, father and older brother Theodore L. Dirkes II, until the age of 2 when they moved back to the United States. After returning to the US they lived in different states coming to Alaska in 1985. Keith lived in Alaska most of his life only leaving for a short time to Virginia and Germany.
With the passing years came more additions to the family as well as more people to love. First came his little brother Lawrence E. Dirkes, and then came Kathrina, David and Sara. Keith was all about family and dreamed of one day starting his own.
Keith had a very big heart and while growing up would do anything to help someone in need. Keith dreamed of finding a cure for AIDS. He wanted to be a Genetic Engineer.
Growing up Keith was active in many different things. He participated in hunting, fishing, as well as other outdoor activities such as hiking, snow machining just to name a few. He also participated in Boy Scouts as well as Tae Kwan Do. While in Tae Kwan Do he participated in numerous spars, tournaments and championships. He was awarded numerous awards as well as the rank of a first degree Black Belt. Also while in Tae Kwon Do, he was awarded the Presidential Academic Fitness Award and participated in Odyssey of the Mind scientific mind challenge. .
While attending Chugiak High School in Chugiak Alaska Keith was very active in sports and music and was a member of the Honor Roll. He was an active member of the varsity rifle team, varsity track, and various bands. He participated in Tuba Christmas Alaska in 1997 and 1998, and was awarded as a Band National Award Winner in the U.S. Achievement Academy. He was also included in the “Who’s Who Among American High School Students for 1997-1998 and 1998-1999. Keith was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Alaska Sportfishing Association, and placed 39th in Anchorage’s 1999 Mayor’s 100 Rifle Championship. He was also a very active participant in Project Close Up, as well as Rare-T. In 1999, Keith participated in the foreign exchange student program and lived in Germany.
Keith graduated from Chugiak High School in 1999, and was attending University Of Alaska Anchorage. Keith had also been accepted to University of Alabama Engineering College. Where he was planning on attending after he saved up some money.
Keith was employed by Godfather’s Pizza and was enrolled in their management in training program.
